Dentures Require Special Care
As plaque forms on dentures just as it does on natural teeth, cleaning your dentures is important. In fact, caring for your dentures properly will increase the longevity of your appliance or denture implant and benefit your health. If plaque is not removed on a daily basis, your dentures look poor, and you may also experience profound denture odours.
Zanon Denture’s easy to follow Daily Cleaning Routine will equip you with the knowledge you need for proper denture care.
Daily Cleaning Routine
Step One: Clean your dentures over a sink filled with water. This way, if you accidentally drop your dentures, you won’t risk breaking the dental appliance on the sink basin.
Step Two: Rinse your dentures thoroughly with water to remove any loose food particles. Hot water can warp your dentures, so please use cool or lukewarm water.
Step Three: Use a proper denture cleaner or paste as conventional toothpastes, such as Colgate or Crest are not designed to clean your dentures. In fact, standard toothpaste contains ingredients that could harm your dentures. Zanon Dental recommends “Denture Creme” for proper dental cleaning purposes.
Step Four: Use a moistened denture brush (not a toothbrush) to clean all the surfaces of your dentures. Be very careful not to brush hard as this could lead to erosion of acrylic, metal or porcelain denture components.
Step Five: Soak your dentures in a tablet of Polident or Efferdent for a minimum of a 1/2 hour. Overnight soakings are also acceptable.
Step Six: Rinse your dentures in fresh running cool or lukewarm water to remove all traces of the denture cleaner.
Step Seven: Use a soft bristled toothbrush to brush your remaining natural teeth, gums, tongue, and palate before reinserting your dentures. This will remove plaque from your mouth, stimulate blood circulation, and help in maintaining strong oral health.
Step Eight: Rinse with mouthwash.
